What benefits will be available when I retire?

Both pensions and benefits policies are up to the government of the day. But there tends to be more continuity in pensions policy. It does not mean that there are no changes, but they tend to be adjustments or tweaks rather than major changes.

But while that is true most of the time, every so often there needs to be a major overhaul of the pensions system. We are in the middle of such a process at the moment.

On the other hand the structure and level of benefits changes more often. It is impossible therefore to say what the future shape of the benefits system for older people will be in the future.
