workSMART from the TUC

the basics

As employees or workers the law gives us certain rights. These rights might stem from our contract of employment, called 'contractual rights', or from statutes – Acts of Parliament or Regulations – called 'statutory rights'.

Statutory rights might be particular to us as individuals, such as protection against unlawful discrimination, or be 'collective rights', for example union recognition where there is sufficient support.

workSMART's rights channel is split into sections, which deal with your employment rights by theme. If you can't find what you're looking for at first, go to the rights channel home page and try the search engine.
