When an employer terminates my employment, as well as unfair dismissal, what other claims might I have against my employer?

The possibilities are numerous and will depend on the circumstances at the time of your dismissal, but, leaving aside Health and Safety legislation, other claims arising from the dismissal could include:

• wrongful dismissal - this is where you are claiming that your employer has breached a term of your contract of employment, such as not giving the appropriate notice to terminate employment or premature termination of a fixed term contract
• a right to a redundancy payment
• compensation for failing to consult under the Collective Redundancies and Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) (Amendment) Regulations 1999
• discrimination on grounds of grounds of sex, gender reassignment, race, sexual orientation, religion or belief, disability, or membership or non-membership of a trade union
• equal pay
• non payment of the National Minimum Wage
• guaranteed debts in an insolvency situation
• a written statement of the reasons for your dismissal
